In light of the recent coronavirus outbreak, a number of launches have been delayed or shifted to the digital platform. Apple's iPhone 9 or also know as the iPhone SE 2 is on its way and now in a recent leak, the next generation iPhone 12 which is slated to launch this year may arrive with four sensors at the back panel.

Initially talked about in a report by Concepts iPhone in a leaked build of the iOS 14, the sketch was eventually corroborated by FrontPage Tech founder Jon Prosser and Max Winebach of XDA Developers. The leaked sketch shows the new camera system which is being worked upon for the iPhone 12 and the iPhone 12 Pro.

The image shows off an upgraded camera module which is complete with four sensors. The camera sensors include the standard lens, a telephoto shooter, and an ultrawide angle sensor which we have seen on the iPhone 11 Pro. The sensors, however, look bigger.

The ultrawide sensor is now on the top right corner of the camera module, replaced by a new sensor of which details are scarce. The planned improvements include Night Mode and sensor-shift image stabilisation.

The idea behind shuffling the camera sensors on the module comes, as a result, to incorporate what appears to be a LiDAR scanner. Apple first introduced the scanner onboard the iPad Pro 2020. However, the one on the iPhone 12 Pro seems bigger which could mean it is more powerful.

This should possibly further improve the AR experiences Apple has planned for this year's iPhone 12. The data which is collected by the scanner could also be used for Portrait Mode to ensure background blur is as precise as possible.
